The Group expressed deep sorrow at the sad demise of the President and conveyed sincere sympathy to the members of the bereaved family and the people of Bangladesh, and hoped that they would recover from this irreparable loss.
The Group conveyed the sentiment during a teleconference of the CMAG Ministers held this evening with Foreign Minister Dr Dipu Moni, MP in the chair in preparation for its upcoming 39th regular session to be held in London next month.
Apart from Bangladesh Foreign Minister, the teleconference was participated from different locations by Foreign Minister of Australia, Bob Carr; Foreign Minister of Canada, John Baird; Foreign Minister of Jamaica, Arnold J Nicholson QC; Foreign Minister of Sierra Leone, Dr Samura Kamara; Foreign Minister of Tanzania, Bernard Kamillius Membe; Foreign Minister of Trinidad & Tobago; Winston Dookeran; Foreign Minister of Vanuatu, Alfred Carlot and Commonwealth Secretary General Kamalesh Sharma.
CMAG, the nine-member group of Commonwealth Foreign Ministers, was established as part of the Millbrook Commonwealth Action Programme adopted during 1995 Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) in New Zealand to deal with serious or persistent violations of the political values in member states of the Commonwealth.
Bangladesh has been a member of this Group since 2009. Currently, Foreign Minister Dipu Moni is the Chairperson of this Group.
