A section of teachers of Comilla University again confined its vice-chancellor (VC) to his office room for more than four hours on Wednesday to realise their 13-point demand including his resignation.
As part of their demonstration programme declared on Tuesday, around 30 teachers of Bangabandhu Parishad, a pro-Awami League teacher front, started a sit-in before the VC office around 10:00am, keeping the VC, Amir Hossain, inside.
Around 4:15pm, university staff took the VC to his residence after he fell sick in his office, reports our Comilla correspondent.
Later, Assistant Professor of Bangla department GM Moniruzzaman, the president of Bangabandhu Parishad, told The Daily Star that they would resume the demonstration if the VC joins office.
The teachers on Sunday gave a 24-hour ultimatum to the VC to start an investigation into illegal appointments and irregularities over promotion at the university.
As he did not pay heed to their demand, the teachers confined the VC in his office room for seven hours on Tuesday.
Later, the teachers declared to hold demonstrations every day from 10:00am to 2:00pm until the VC resigns.
Meanwhile, pro-VC teachers under the banner of Progoti Shikkhak Jote formed a human chain on the campus around 2:00pm Wednesday protesting the demonstration.
Despite the demonstration, teachers are taking classes and continuing normal activities, Dr Touhidur Rahman, registrar of Comilla University, told The Daily Star.
