Collaborative approach sought to face RMG sector’s challenges

 

Speakers at a seminar here on Thursday laid emphasis on a collaborative approach to address issues relating to compliance and making factories eco-friendly for keeping the RMG sector’s future business unharmed.

 

They suggested identifying challenges and focusing on them for resolving problems, removing technical difficulties of vulnerable factory buildings, ensuring safety and standards as per the buyers’ requirement in addition to introducing an environment-friendly production method for greater benefits.

 

Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) arranged the seminar, titled ‘Eco-friendly and Compliant Factory- A Pre-condition for future Business: Need Collaborative Approach to Make it Possible’ at Sonargaon Hotel.

 

Foreign Minister Dr Dipu Moni spoke as the chief guest at the programme held with BGMEA President M Atiqul Islam in the Chair.

 

Labour Secretary Mikail Shipar, Executive Director of Policy Research Institute of Bangladesh Dr Ahsan H Mansur, Chief Executive of Bangladesh International Arbitration Centre (BIAC) Dr Toufiq Ali, ILO Country Director Srinivas Reddy, IFC Programme Manager Mrinal Sircar, Prof Dr Syed Ferhat Anwar of Dhaka University’s IBA, Deputy Programme Manager of Bangladesh Water PaCT, Nishat Shahid Chowdhury and former BGMEA Vice President Faruque Hassan also took part in the discussion.

 

Dipu Moni said green and environmental principle in production is a smart choice. “We can take a hard look at the ecological goal and motivate entrepreneurs proactively.”

 

She said Bangladesh is passing through a transformation stage and laid emphasis on removing problems of vulnerable factories. “Let’s embrace the challenges and let’s work together to overcome the challenges.”

 

The foreign minister urged the entrepreneurs to take a bold and calculative decision for the future business in the changing global scenario and market demand.
