Paramilitary Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) troops have been deployed in Rajshahi, Khulna, Barisal and Sylhet city corporation areas to maintain law and orders situation ahead of the mayoral elections.
The four cities will go for the city corporation polls Friday.
RAJSHAHI
Six platoons BGB, a paramilitary force, were deployed in Rajshahi city from 6:00am Thursday to avert any pre-poll violence, said Returning Officer Subas Chandra Sarker.
Twenty two mobile courts led by executive magistrates have been patrolling the city’s thoroughfare while 44 teams of Rapid Action Battalion will be deployed in the afternoon, he said.
Immediate action will be taken if any violence takes place in the city, the returning officer said.
SYLHET
Six platoons BGB were deployed in the city at around 1:00pm and 10 mobile courts have also been roaming the city corporation area, said Retuning Officer Ezharul Haque.
KHULNA
Seven platoons of BGB and three platoons of Coast Guard have been deployed in the city, according to a written statement signed by the returning office.
There will be a mobile court for each ward, a striking force for every three wards and a Rab team for every two wards, the statement said.
BARISAL
BGB will start patrolling the city streets from Thursday midnight after the candidates end their campaign, sources said.
