All of the expelled students have been accused in the police case initiated by Sohel’s family.

Proctor Ahmed Rajib Chowdhury said that another seven students have been also suspended.

“Sixteen students have been expelled upon investigations over the Mar 29 clash at the Business Faculty.

“Seven others have been suspended and served with a show-cause notice,” he told bdnews24.com.

Business Faculty student Sohel, an activist of Bangladesh Chhatra League, was killed on Mar 29 amidst a dispute among the students over organising a function.

Twenty of those facing action over the campus murder are students of the Faculty of Business Studies.

MBA student Sohel, a deputy secretary at Bangladesh Chhatra League’s Chittagong metropolitan unit, was stabbed during the scuffle with rivals on the university campus on Mar 29.

He died at Chittagong Medical College Hospital (CMCH) later in the afternoon.

His father Abu Taher initiated the murder case with Chawkbazar police a day later against 16 persons, including Sohel’s friend Md Ibrahim aka Sohan, all students of the university.

Police said they had identified, from CCTV footage, the youth who fatally stabbed Sohel during the clash.

The university authorities constituted a probe committee over the incident.
