Chief Election Commissioner Kazi Rakibuddin Ahmad on Thursday said they will not compromise with any quarter when it comes to holding a free fair election.
“There’s no scope of ‘if or if not’ about the election. The schedule will be announced in time so that no problem is created for anyone, and the time won’t be a short one. We’ll give enough time,” he told reporters after a meeting at his EC Secretariat office.
About the continuation of the parliament session till November 7, the CEC said it will not create any problem in announcing the schedule for the general election. “Our source of power is the Constitution as all the executive bodies are obliged to cooperate with the Commission.”
Turning to election monitoring, Rakibuddin said the Commission has already drafted the policy in this regard with minor changes.
Over registration of National Democratic Party (NDP) of Salauddin Quader Chowdhury convicted for war crimes, the CEC said the party’s appeal for getting registered with the Commission was refused in 2008. “But they now came up with a direction from the High Court (against the then EC’s decision). We’ll take a decision after examining it (court direction),” he added.
