A bus has overturned in front of Dhaka’s Karwan Bazar, killing a man and injuring several others.
Tejgaon Police Sub-inspector Sujit Kumar Saha confirmed the casualties but could not confirm the identity of the deceased in Wednesday’s incident that happened around 6:30pm.
bdnews24.com’s photojournalist Mustafiz Mamun’s photo shows the route 8 bus on its side in front of Hotel La Vinci in the area.
“Two buses of Nagar Paribahan were racing each other from Farmgate finding the roads empty. One of the buses went forward and the other tailgated it on the right.
“The bus in front lost control, hit the road divider and overturned,” the police officer said.
A youth was killed on the spot.
The accident triggered traffic gridlock on the busy street.
Traffic resumed after police removed the overturned bus.
The victim’s body has been sent to the Dhaka Medical College and Hospital.
