A seven-year-old boy was killed in a road crash in the capital’s Hatirjheel yesterday.

Md Raihan was playing with some children when a car ran over him, leaving him critically injured.

He was taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital in the evening where doctors declared him dead.

Raihan was the only son of Liton, who pulls a pushing cart to make a living, and Lucky Akther.

Liton told the Dhaka Tribune his son was a first-grader at a local school in Rampura.

“I had a dream to give him a good education so that he can have a good life and support us in our later years,” he said.

“I know my son will never come back but I have not yet informed his mother of his death. I do not know how she will cope with the shock.”

Abu Bakkar, who witnessed the accident, said the children, including Raihan, were playing beside the road but the car was moving very fast, leading to the loss of the innocent life.

Rafiqul Islam, OC of Rampura police station, said the car could not be seized.

“But we are trying our best to seize it,” he added.
