Awami League Presidium Member Obaidul Quader on Saturday said BNP’s ‘march for democracy’ is nothing but a cruel joke as it follows an undemocratic path.
“BNP’s programme is not a democratic march, but our (AL’s) programmes are democratic ones as those are aimed at ensuring the security of people. Law-enforcement agencies will strictly perform their duties during the opposition’s march towards Dhaka programme tomorrow (Sunday),” he said.
Obaidul Quader, also the Communications Minister, came up with the remarks while addressing an extended meeting of Awami League Dhaka city unit at its office at Bangabandhu Avenue in the city.
“We won’t provoke them, nor we’ll attack, but if they attack us we’ll definitely resist them,” said Obaidul adding, “We need not to worry about the ‘March towards Dhaka’ programme called by BNP as its programme has got stuck in quicksand,” he added.
Posing a question, the AL leader further said, “Who is responsible for what happened over the 10th general election? If BNP had joined the next election there would have been no empty field. They’ve made the election a contest-less one. They can’t avoid the blame,” he said.
The Communications Minister said, “We’ve been passing through the most challenging time since the country’s independence 42 years ago. I do believe we’ll be able to deal with the challenge under the leadership of our Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.”
Coming down hard on BNP for unleashing countrywide violence in the name of a movement, Quader said, “There’s also a movement in Thailand and Ukraine in recent times. But there’s no violence there. People are the main strength in those countries for waging any movement. Here BNP’s movement is full of terrorism …they’ve outsourced their terrorist acts. It’s unique in world history.”
Speaking on the occasion, State Minister for Law Advocate Quamrul Islam said each and every leader and activist of Awami League equipped with sticks will resist the opposition men for saving the capital. “Our fight will continue. BNP is a terrorist outfit. They’ve lost their identity as a political party.”
City AL general secretary Mofazzel Hossain Chowdhury Maya, “We’ve to make such arrangements so that no one enter Dhaka through its eight entry points and nor could flee. No devil will be allowed to enter the city.”
