The BNP has urged the government to call a meeting of all political parties in the backdrop of murders of bloggers and a publisher which it says proves a ‘slide in law and order’.
Vice-Chairman Hafiz Uddin Ahmed made the call after meeting the grieving family members of publisher Faisal Arefin Dipan, the owner of ‘Jagriti Prokashony’, on Sunday evening.
“Under the circumstances, all of us, the government, opposition party and all political parties, must create resistance. We all condemn these incidents and want redress.”
Speaking with reporters, Ahmed said, “To prevent such incident in future, my suggestion for the government will be to call this all-party meeting and launch a judicial probe to reach a logical conclusion.”
Those responsible for all the murders and attacks must be brought to justice, he added.
Dipan was found murdered in his office on the second floor of Aziz Supermarket in Dhaka’s Shahbagh on Saturday evening.
Two hours earlier, unknown assailants tried to kill three people including publisher Ahmedur Rashid Chowdhury Tutul of ‘Suddhaswar’ at his Lalmatia office.
The trio is currently undergoing treatment at Dhaka Medical College Hospital with wounds from sharp weapons. One of them, blogger Tarek Rahim, was also shot in his waist.
Dipan, too, was hacked with sharp weapons several times leading to his death.
