All major development projects, including the Mayor Mohammad Hanif Flyover, were taken up during BNP rule, the party’s leader Sadeq Hossain Khoka has claimed.
The BNP leader has alleged that the present government ‘hijacked’ the projects and is passing them off as theirs.
In a press conference on Friday, held soon after Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina opened the MM Hanif flyover, Khoka said the Jatrabarhi project had been taken up during former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia’s term.
It was the county’s first project under the private-public partnership model, Khoka said.
The adoption of the project proposal, the floating of tenders, the sanctioning of the plan, and funding were done during Khaleda Zia’s time, with 40 percent of the work being completed during her tenure, said Khoka.
But, he added, Sheikh Hasina had passed off the completion of an ongoing project as the success of her party.
“The credit for all the visible projects in Dhaka goes to the BNP,” claimed Khoka, BNP’s Vice Chairman and former Dhaka mayor.

“Some people want to wish away this reality. So they are laying the foundation stones of projects we had set rolling. We condemn such perfidy,” Khoka said.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina opened the 11.7km-long Mayor Mohammad Hanif flyover stretching from Gulistan to Jatribarhi on Friday.
Hasina had laid the foundation stone of the Tk 21.08 billion project on Jun 22, 2010.
