Veteran lawyer Barrister Rafique Ul Haque has termed Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s address to the nation as positive and urged the BNP to hold talks.
“Prime Minister’s address has solved 95 percent of the problem. Now BNP should accept the offer for talks,” he said in an immediate reaction on Friday.
In her address to the nation in the evening, Sheikh Hasina proposed for an all-party interim government to conduct the forthcoming 10th national election.

She also called upon the BNP-led opposition to select their representatives and name them for joining the interim government.
Rafique Ul Haque, who was the Attorney General during Hussein Muhammd Ershad’s military rule, said, “The Prime Minister has called for an all-party government. Now the ways to work it out should emerge from discussion.”
“It’s a very good proposal. Now the two [Sheikh Hasina and BNP chief Khaleda Zia] will have to execute it. How democracy will progress will have to be determined.”
He also called for talks to discuss distribution of portfolios of the all-party government.
“It should be finalised who from the opposition will get into the Cabinet and who will get which portfolio. Also, whether Ershad’s people will be a part of that Cabinet should be settled. Because if it’s an all-party body, then Ershad [Jatiya Party Chairman Hussein Muhammd Ershad] also comes into account.”
Rafique said the political impasse over the polls-time government was 95 percent resolved by Sheikh Hasina’s speech. “The rest will have to be sorted out through discussion. I’m always optimistic. I don’t think of anything negative.”
