BNP acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Saturday demanded an exemplary punishment of the law enforcers who allegedly killed its activist Jahangir Hossain of Mohanpur village in Sirajganj after his alleged forced disappearance.

In a statement, Alamgir said Jahangir’s body was found on Saturday, a day after his ‘forced’ disappearance.

Fakhrul further alleged that police arrested Moshiur Rahman Sabuj, Poura unit BNP president, Sundarganj, Gaibandha district, Jahangir, former vice president Sadat College Chhatra Dal unit, Tangail and Pradip, a Dhaka University leader of Chhatra Dal ahead of upazila elections.

Condemning the ‘indiscriminate’ arrest of its leaders and workers and ‘killing’ of its activists, Alamgir said such coercive actions of the ‘illegal’ government have created a horrific situation in the country.

Alamgir said the government has got obsessed in putting BNP men behind bars through blanket arrests and demanded immediate release of its leaders and activists.

Issuing a note of warning to the government, Alamgir said the dream of establishing autocracy annihilating the opposition through oppression will not be fulfilled.
