The party’s senior politician Moudud Ahmed has said, before returning to Parliament, they would wait until they get a clear idea about the government’s stand on its demand for a caretaker government to conduct the national elections.
“We are not joining the session (Parliament session) today. But we have not boycotted the Parliament. We want to go to Parliament,” said Ahmed, BNP’s standing committee member, at a discussion on Thursday afternoon.
This could be the last session of the incumbent Parliament unless the rumour about holding another session before the incumbent government’s tenure ends on Oct 24 comes true.
BNP is demanding that the constitution be amended in this session for paving the way for a poll-time caretaker government. On the other hand, the ruling Awami League has been asking BNP to place its demand in the Parliament.
“We will never place a new proposal in the Parliament,” Moudud Ahmed said during the discussion held at National Press Club.
“Time is not over yet and we want to have a dialogue over constitutional amendment with the government.”
The last time BNP lawmakers had attended a Parliament session was on June 3 after an absence of 83 days.
