BNP-led 18-Party alliance has extended its 48-hour blockade by 12 hours.
BNP Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi told the press on Wednesday that it would now end at 6pm on Thursday.
The extension was made to protest against deaths and injuries of many people and mass arrests during the last two days’ blockade that began at 6am on Tuesday, Ruhul said.
Fourteen people have died so far in violence related to the blockade.
Special prayers will be held after Zuma prayers on Friday for the salvation of those who died.
BNP acting Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir had given a call for the blockade within hours of the Election Commission announced the poll schedule in a televised speech on Monday.
