The ongoing Dhaka Premier League witnessed its first tied match of the season, when Bangladesh Krira Shikkha Protisthan held Shinepukur Cricket Club to a dramatic tie in their seventh round match at the BKSP in Savar on Saturday.
Prantik Nawroz and Abdul Kaiyum made 81 and 70 respectively to guide BKSP to 222-8 in 50 overs before Hasan Murad’ 3-41 countered Unmukt Chand’s heroic 74 to hold Shinepukur to 222-9 in their stipulated overs.
At Mirpur, Brothers Union’s Fazle Mahmud and Mizanur Rahman’s hundreds went in vain as Prime Bank Cricket Club beat them by five wickets in a high-scoring match.
Mohammedan Sporting Club suffered their fourth straight defeat in the league, losing to Uttara Sporting Club by seven wickets at Fatullah.
BKSP v Shinepukur
Batting first, Prantik held one end up for BKSP while other top-order batsmen departed cheaply, to leave them at 106-4 in 29.4 overs.
An 83-run fifth wicket stand between Prantik and Abdul brought their innings back on track before Shoriful Islam dismissed the former to break the stand in the 45th over.
Abdul hung on to take the score past 200 before falling victim to Delwar Hossain, who finished with 3-33, in the last ball of the innings.
In reply, Shinepukur were seemingly on their way to an easy win, reaching 175-3 in 40 overs with Chand and Afif Hossain (27) batting.
But after Afif’s dismissal in the 41st over off Shamim Hossain, Murad struck thrice in quick succession to leave Shinepukur to 213-7 in 49 overs.
Requiring 10 runs off the final over, Delwar Hossain struck a boundary in the fourth ball off Tanzim Hasan Sakib to make the equation three runs from two balls before getting run out in the next ball while going for a second run.
Chand, now on strike, needed to score two off the last ball, but managed to take only a bye run to level the scores.
Brothers v Prime Bank
Fazle Mahmud struck his career-best List-A score of 149 and remained unbeaten while Mizanur Rahman made 100, his second hundred of the league, to power Brothers to a mammoth 330-5 in their stipulated overs after they were sent to bat first.
Abhimanyu Easwaran hit a swift 90 for Prime Bank while skipper Anamul Haque (54) and Al-Amin (52) struck fifties to set up the chase for Prime Bank.
Alok Kapali then hit a 65-ball 85 to drive Prime Bank to 331-5 in 48.5 overs.
Mohammedan v Uttara
Sent into bat, Nadif Chowdhury (39) was the only Mohammedan batsman to cross the 30-run mark as they were bowled out for 193 in 45.1 overs.
Abdur Rashid and Asaduzzaman Payel claimed 3-32 and 3-53 respectively for Uttara.
Tanzid Hasan brought up his maiden List-A hundred and remained unbeaten on 101 to guide Uttara to 194-3 in 40 overs.
