A Dhaka Court on Friday placed three BCL activists on a 8-day remand each in connection with the murder of Bishwajit Das during December 9 road blockade in the capital.
Mahfuzur Rahman Nahid, HM Kibria and Mohammad Kayyum Miah were brought to the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate’s Court around 2:10pm.
Metropolitan Magistrate Shahriar Mahmud Adnan passed the order after Sub-inspector Mahbubul Alam Akond of Sutrapur Police Station produced them before it with a 10-day remand prayer to each of them.
In the forwarding report, Akond, also the investigation officer (IO) of the case said the three activists of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) were identified from several video footages.
They were directly involved in the killing of Bishwajit.
So they need to be remanded to find out vital clues about the killing and the whereabouts of their other accomplices responsible for committing such offence, the IO said.
A DB team arrested Nahid in the city’s Palashi area while another team arrested Kibria and Kayyum in front of Moghbazar Wareless gate.
Nahid is an ex-Jagannath University student, and both Kibria and Kayyum are students of psychology department of the university, according to a DB press release.
Twenty-four-year-old Bishwajit was beaten and hacked to death by activists of pro-Awami League student body Chhatra League during the December 9 blockade enforced by the BNP-led 18-party alliance.0
