Biman to get 4 Boeing aircraft by 2019

The government will add four Boeing 787-800 aircraft to the fleet of Biman Bangladesh Airlines by 2019, aiming to improve its passenger service, Finance Minister AMA Muhith said on Thursday.

“Two Boeing 777-300 aircraft have been procured. Procurement of two Boeing 737-800 aircraft is underway. Hopefully, another four Boeing 787-800 aircraft will be added to the Biman fleet by 2019,” he said while delivering his budget speech in Parliament.

However, in the management of Biman commercial interest should get precedence over other considerations, Muhith said.

The Finance Minister also mentioned that appropriate steps have to be taken to reduce its losses.

Alongside, the work for the expansion and upgradation of other airports, including Hazrat Shahajalal International Airport, will continue, he said.

“In the meantime, the construction of the second runway at Hazrat Shahjalal Airport has been taken up. The airport in Cox’s Bazar will be upgraded to an international one soon,” Muhith said.
