A Biman Bangladesh Airlines aircraft carrying 30 passengers and 6 crew skidded and overran the runway on landing at Yangon International Airport in heavy rain and poor visibility, an airport official said.

A spokesperson for Yangon Aerodrome Company, the airport operator, confirmed that the incident involving the Bombardier Dash-8/400 aircraft, flight BG060 from Dhaka, occurred at 6.51pm. He said the situation was “under control” and that injured passengers and crew immediately received proper treatment.

He said no one was killed, but did not have immediate information on how many people were injured or how seriously.

“Our immediate priority was to take care of passengers and crew members to ensure their safety and well-being. In a subsequent phase, we will coordinate with authorities and air operator in order to expedite the removal of the wreckage and to resume normal operations as soon as possible,” commented the spokesperson.
