BNP Joint Secretary General Barkatullah Bulu was arrested from the party’s Naya Paltan headquarters in Dhaka on Wednesday, less than a month after he was released from jail on Apr 22.
Dhaka Metropolitan Police Spokesperson Masudur Rahman confirmed bdnews24.com of the arrest.
He said Bulu was nabed after he stepped out of the headquarters on finishing a press conference around 11:30am.
The BNP announced a 6am-6pm shutdown on Sunday at the press conference.
Party activists said police surrounded Bulu after he stepped out of the office gates with other activists and told him he was under arrest.
Earlier on Apr 22, Bulu was released from Kashimpur jail.
A Dhaka judge had sent seven top BNP leaders including Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir and Barkatullah Bulu to jail when they appeared for hearing in a case of vandalism and bomb explosion.
