Paramedics transported Ali to Broward Health Medical Centre, where he died of his injuries

A Bangladeshi man has been shot and killed during a convenience store robbery in North Lauderdale in Florida.

The convenience store clerk, Ayub Ali, was a native of Bangladesh, and lived in Parkland’s Meadow Run community in Florida, reports the Miami Herald.

Joy Oglesby, a spokeswoman for the Broward County Sheriff’s Office, said a gunman entered Aunt Molly’s Food Store in the 1600 block of South State Road 7 around 12:30pm. The gunman robbed 61-year-old Ayub Ali and then shot him, Oglesby said.

Paramedics transported Ali to Broward Health Medical Centre, where he died of his injuries.

Friends of Ayub Ali said he was part of a very religious Bangladeshi family, and leaves behind four children, including one who goes to Marjory Stonemen Douglas High School, reports WSVN news.

“He was a very, very nice person,” said Masud Sadek, a friend of the victim. “He was very friendly with the customers. Everybody liked him in the community.”

“It’s really shocking news, that somebody just shot him and he passed away,” said Reza Islam, who described the victim as being like an uncle to him. “We never thought that we were going lose him like that.”

Police are looking for an unidentified male subject.
