Bangladesh will build an 1165-acre exclusive zone for tourists in Teknaf with hotels, night clubs, park and convention hall.
The government has given the go-ahead to two public-private partnership (PPP) projects in Cox’s Bazar for development of tourism sector.
The cabinet committee on the economic affairs in a meeting on Wednesday approved the project proposals put forward by the civil aviation and tourism ministry, said Cabinet Division Joint Secretary Mostafizur Rahman.
Finance Minister Abul Maal Abdul Muhith presided over the meeting.
Under one project, an exclusive tourist zone will be developed in Sabrang area under Teknaf Upazila.
The 1165-acre exclusive tourist zone will have hotels, cottages, beach villas, night clubs, a convention hall and an amusement park. The government has already given permission to the ministry to use 135 acres of land in the beach for the project.
An international-standard tourism complex will be established in place of Motel Upal, owned by Bangladesh Tourism Corporation, under the second project.
Watch towers, shopping malls, food courts, cineplexes and swimming pools will be developed on 5.76-acre land.
The meeting also approved, in principle, a proposal to build a shopping mall-cum-guesthouse on an ‘unused’ piece of land owned by Bangladesh Railway in Khulna under PPP arrangements.
