A Buet student, who was stabbed at his dormitory on April 9, died at a city hospital early Tuesday.

Arif Raihan Dwip, a third year student of the mechanical engineering at Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (Buet), succumbed to his injuries at SquareHospital around 3:30am.

The body of Dwip was taken to the Buet campus from the hospital around 10:00am.

After a namaz-e-janaza at the university, the body was taken to his village home in Pirojpur, said Buet Directorate of Students’ Welfare Director Delwar Hossain.

Dwip, a resident of Nazrul Islam Hall, was a member of the convenor committee of Bangladesh Chhatra League of Buet unit.

An unidentified man dragged Dwip down the hall’s stairs and stabbed him indiscriminately on April 9.

He was first rushed to DhakaMedicalCollegeHospital and later shifted to SquareHospital.

Dwip’s brother Riaz Morshed filed a case with Chawkbazar Police Station accusing unidentified people.

Eight days into the attack, police arrested one Mezbah Uddin for his alleged involvement with the attack.

Buet BCL leaders blamed the activists of Jamaat-e-Islami and its student wing Islami Chhatra Shibir for the attack.
