The BNP says the arrest of one of its senior leaders over a ‘false charge’ was an attempt to divert the attention of the ruling party’s ‘misdeeds’ during the Upazila Election.
“The government has been going ahead with mass arrests. Now they are arresting the party’s senior leaders in false cases. Wednesday’s arrest of Standing Committee member Khandker Mosharraf Hossain is a part of that plan,” BNP’s Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi told a media briefing on Thursday.
The Anti Corruption Commission has nabbed the senior BNP leader from his Gulshan residence in a money laundering case.
He is accused of laundering around Tk 95 million during his time as minister.
“The sole purpose of this arrest is to divert the people’s attention from the misdeeds of the illegal government,” Rizvi said at the party’s Naya Paltan headquarters.
He demanded immediate release of the Hossain.
