Police have arrested one more person for his suspected involvement in the snatching of three condemned militants from a prison van in Trishal on February 23.
Raju Ahmed, 33, son of late Ibrahim Hossain of Nagarkanda Baparipara area under Islampur municipality in the Jamalpur district, was arrested from Baparipara around Sunday noon.
Officer-in-Charge of the Mymensingh police Detective Branch Majedur Rahman produced him before the Mymensingh Magistrate Court-4 on Monday afternoon with a plea to interrogate him for 10 days.
After the hearing, Magistrate Farzana Yasmin granted the remand appeal.
Officer-in-Charge of Jamalpur district unit DB Police Mohammad Kamruzzaman said that Raju was a member of the banned militant outfit Jama’atul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB).
After his arrest, Raju was handed over to Mymensingh DB Police on Sunday.
In a stunning raid, a group of JMB men attacked the prison van with guns and bombs, and snatched away three JMB convicts, killing one policeman and injuring two others.
Two of the freed convicts — Rakibul Hasan Russel and Salahuddin Salehin alias Sunny –were on death row. The other — Jahidul Islam alias Bomaru Mizan– was serving life term.
Hours after the attack, Mizan was captured from Tangail and later killed in a ‘gunfight’ with police.
