AL-BNP 3rd round dialogue ends

 

The third round dialogue between the country’s two major political parties — Awami League and BNP — in an effort to reach a consensus for a participatory election breaking the ongoing political deadlock ended at a Gulshan residence in the city on Friday evening.

 

The meeting ended around 6:15pm.

 

The nearly two-hour long meeting resumed at the UNDP Project office, a house beside Heritage Restaurant at house number 10, road number 110 in between Gulshan 1 and 2, at 4:15pm.

 

The dialogue between the two parties started on Tuesday last in the presence of UN Assistant Secretary General Oscar Fernandez-Taranco.

The second round meeting was also held at the same venue on Wednesday.

 

According to sources, Land Minister Amir Hossain, Industries Minister Tofail Ahmed, AL secretary general Syed Ashraful Islam and Prime Minister’s Foreign Affairs Adviser Dr Gowher Rizvi are representing the government while BNP is being represented by BNP acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam,BNP standing committee members Dr Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain, Dr Abdul Moyeen Khan and vice chairman Shamsher Mobin Chowdhury as they did on Tuesday and Wednesday.

 

Earlier on Tuesday, the Awami League and BNP representatives held their first closed-door meeting with Taranco at the Gulshan residence of UN Resident Coordinator Neal Walker.

 

However, there has been no positive outcome from the meetings as the two bickering sides failed to reach an understanding over the composition of the interim government for election oversight.
