As part of its routine work, the government has brought some changes in a number of Bangladesh missions abroad and the Foreign Ministry to further bring dynamism in diplomacy, reports United News of Bangladesh.
The government has decided to appoint new ambassadors in Germany, Egypt, Portugal and the Philippines and new chief of protocol at the foreign ministry as well as fresh appointment in three important wings, officials said.
Besides, three senior officials have been promoted to the position of director general in Economic Affairs, South Asia and Europe wings.
As per the changes, Bangladesh’s incumbent ambassador in Lisbon, Portugal Imtiaz Ahmed will move to Berlin, Germany as ambassador replacing Muhammad Ali Sorcar. Sorcar has been made ambassador to Cairo, Egypt.
Bangladesh ambassador in Egypt Md Wahidur Rahman will soon go for Post Retirement Leave (PRL).
Director general, East Asia and Pacific wing at the foreign ministry Md Ruhul Alam Siddique has been appointed as Bangladesh’s next ambassador to Lisbon.
On the other hand, the government has decided to appoint chief of protocol Asad Alam Siam as next ambassador to Manila, Philippines.
The contractual appointment of Bangladesh ambassador in Manila Major Gen John Gomes, (Retd.) will expire soon.
AKM Shahidul Karim, currently serving as consul general at the Consulate General of Bangladesh to Jeddah, has been appointed as chief of protocol at the foreign ministry.
Meanwhile, three newly promoted DGs are Mohammad Monirul Islam (Economic Affairs wing), Mohammad Khorshed Alam Khastagir (Europe wing) and Md Monwar Hossain (South Asia wing).
Earlier, the government appointed director general, Economic Affairs wing at the foreign ministry Riaz Hamidullah as Bangladesh high commissioner in Colombo, Sri Lanka; and director general, South Asia wing Tareq Md Ariful Islam as deputy permanent representative at Bangladesh Permanent Mission to UN in New York, USA.
