BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia on Monday said the current ‘repressive’ government is unable to realise what dire consequences it awaits for its ‘misdeeds and misrule’.
“This oppressor regime must go. But, those who are now talking tall talks and committing misdeeds can’t understand what dire consequences are lying ahead for them. The day they will realise their wrongdoings, they’ll have nowhere to go as neither people nor Allah will forgive them,” said.
The BNP chief made the remarks at an ifter party arranged by Jatiya Ganotantrik Party (Jagpa), one of the components of 20-party alliance, at the city’s Ladies Club.
Khaleda called upon people to cooperate with the leaders and activists of the 20-party alliance to save the country from Awami League’s ‘misrule’ and restore peace and democracy.
She alleged the government is least bothered about public sufferings as it is busy cementing its illegal power and plundering public money. “This illegitimate regime is going to hike public servants’ salaries. But, they have no drive to lessen common people’s sufferings and ensure their security and livelihood.”
Mentioning that the country now lacks democracy, the BNP chief said people are now falling in trouble at every step.
Criticising the government for creating obstacles to the release of BNP acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on bail, Khaleda said though the High Court has given him bail in the cases filed against him, the government is creating barriers to his release only to harass him. “But the ruling party men are getting released even though killed people and made people disappeared.”
She alleged that the government has let loose the ruling party men to destroy the country by indulging in terrorism, extortion, plundering and drug peddling.
Khaleda said Awami men are smuggling huge amount of drugs into the country to destroy the country’s young generation. “They’ve already got spoiled and are now trying to destroy the society.”
The BNP chief urged people to pray to the Almighty Allah in this holy month of Ramadan so that He saves people from the grasp of this ‘repressive’ regime.
LDP chief Oli Ahmed, Jatiya Party (Zafar) chairman Kazi Zafar Ahmed, BNP standing committee members MK Anwar, Dr Abdul Moyeen Khan, Nazrul Islam Khan, Krishak Sramik Janata League joint general secretary Iqbal Siddique and top leaders of the 20-party alliance were, among, others, present.
