A teacher-student-people solidarity rally protesting at the sexual harassment of women at Suhrawardy Udyan during Pahela Baishakh celebrations on Friday demanded the removal of the Dhaka University proctor and implementation of policies against sexual harassment at universities.
The Bangladesh Chhatra Union organised the rally at Raju Memorial Monument on the campus where the protesters also placed a six-point charter of demands from the rally and announced a four-day series of programmes demanding exemplary punishment of the attackers on women.
The other demands included the arrest and trial of the culprits, investigation over the negligence of on-duty police and others concerned.
The protesters would go out on countrywide demonstrations on April 19, form human chain from Dhaka University Curzon Hall to Aparajeya Bangla on April 20, and submit memorandum to the home ministry on April 21. They would also hold a news conference on Saturday to apprise media of the latest situation.
The Communist Party of Bangladesh-backed mayoral candidate for Dhaka north city corporation Abdullah Al Kafi extended solidarity with the demand of protesters and declared that he would begin sit-in in front of the office of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police commissioner Saturday morning protesting at the attack on women.
