Workers of the five apparel units of Tuba Group will stage demonstration to press home their demand for payment of their three months’ wage arrears.
Tuba Group workers have been continuing fast-unto-death strike from 28 July demanding the wages and Eid bonus arrears.
Garment Workers Unity Forum president Moshrefa Mishu, who as well has been on the hunger strike before Eid, announced the programme on Friday at the groups’ factory housed at Hossain Market Building at Badda in Dhaka.
Mishu said they would spread this movement across the country and for this purpose “Tuba Group Workers’ Movement Committee” have been formed. This committee, said Mishu, would hold rally countrywide, especially in Ashulia, Gazipur, Savar, Narayanganj and Chittagong.
Mishu criticised BGMEA’s urge to the demonstrating workers to wait for seven more days for their payment while it has already been five days into their fast-unto-death strike for the arrears.
She alleged that BGMEA is overlooking the workers’ strife.
BGMEA vice-president SM Mannan Kochi yesterday (Thursday) at a press briefing assured that the workers would get their arrears within a week but worker leaders rejected such promise.
