Expressing concern over the extra-judicial killings and abductions, BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia has said killing and abduction would be stopped in the country if a non-party government assumes power.
She made the observation while addressing a programme organised by Jagpa to mark its 34th founding anniversary in the Institution of Diploma Engineers in the afternoon.
She said: “The illegal government cannot stop the ongoing abduction and killing spree as the men from the ruling party are involved in those misdeeds.
The government does not have control over its leaders and activists, including ministers and Mps. That’s why the incidents of killing and abduction have become a common phenomenon,” she added.
Khaleda further said there was no illegal government in the country and the incumbent government was an “illegitimate” one as it was not elected through the people’s votes.
She also renewed her call to the government to hold talks in order to arrange election under a non-partisan government.
She said: “The door of discussion is still open. I am urging for talks to hold free, fair and participatory election under a non-partisan government.
If they (Government) think they are popular then they should take the chance to prove their popularity. There is no pleasure of wining in a voter-less election,” she added.
Regarding the incident of JMB snatching, Khaleda said: “It has been proved that Jubo League was behind the incident as the involvement of a Jubo League man has been found in the hijacking.”
“It has been established that Awami League, Jubo League, Chhatra League patronize militancy. How will the country be safe in their hands?”
