Bangladesh’s exports to Turkey crossed $1 billion mark in 2013, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The total two-way trade last year stood at $1.2 billion, which is heavily in favour of Bangladesh.
Bangladesh mostly exported knitted and non-knitted garments, jute yarn and ceramics, and imported $196 million worth of iron, steel, machineries, and cotton textiles.
According to Turkish Statistical Institute (TURKSTAT), Bangladesh’s exports grew by 31 percent over the previous year after a setback in 2011 when Turkey imposed “safeguard duties” on readymade garment imports from all countries.
Later, the Foreign Ministry said, efforts of Bangladesh embassy in Ankara encouraged Turkish importers to buy more from Bangladesh.
