The government is making a list of ‘infiltrating criminals’ in Bangladesh, Communication Minister Obaidul Quader has said.
He possibly meant criminals who are trying to’ infiltrate’ the ruling party.
Quader gave this warning while speaking to reporters in Sylhet on Monday — a day after Rajshahi University was shut down after attacks on students by activists of ruling party’s student wing, Bangladesh Chhatra League.
“The government, in its current term, has taken a tough stance against extortion, terror and militancy,” said the minister. “We are now preparing a list for extortionists.”
“The government has ordered the list to be made immediately, so that a cleaning operation can be launched and tough administrative measures can follow,” he said.
The Communication Minister was visiting, Kazirbazar Bridge, undergoing construction in Sylhet.
About former Opposition BNP he said their participation in the Upazila elections is “good news for democracy.”
BNP, after boycotting the 10th national election, has been calling Awami League’s re-election “illegal” and the Election Commission “spineless”.
“BNP’s decision to participate in the Upazila election means they have accepted the present government.”
Obaidul Quader claimed, “BNP is interested in the 11th national election and no longer wants interim election.”
“Now let’s see when time and situation is ready for this election.”
The Communication Minister appealed to BNP and its ally Jamaat-e-Islami to stay away from the “strikes and politics of destruction”.
“The strikes were a flop,” he said. “The people don’t want strike, they want positive politics.”
