BNP senior lawmaker Barrister Moudud Ahmed has said that his party will not be present in the parliament during Finance Minister AMA Muhith’s presentation of the fiscal year 2013-14 on Thursday.

The BNP lawmaker said this at a press briefing after his party staged a walkout in the parliament Wednesday protesting the remarks against late president Ziaur Rahman and Barrister Moudud Ahmed by Jute and Textiles Minister Abdul Latif Siddique.

Earlier, replying to a supplementary question of Emajuddin Pramanik, Minister Latif Siddique alleged that BNP founder Ziaur Rahman was responsible for destroying the country’s jute industry.

It sparked protests from the opposition bench who demanded that the minister’s remarks be expunged from the proceedings.

As Speaker Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury requested the opposition lawmakers to listen to the Minister, senior BNP MP Moudud Ahmed sought the floor.

Opposing jute minister’s comments, Moudud told the house that the  minister has set a bad practice by speaking against a former president.

“I will request him to learn the Parliamentary practice. I am also still learning and will continue to him to do so,” Moudud said and asked the minister not to open Pandora box.

Later Jute Minister made some remarks against Moudud Ahmed reminding that he (Moudud) could not be in parliament if there was no military rule in the country.

At this stage, the opposition lawmakers rose on their feet and shouted at the Jute Minister and staged a walkout at 6:40 pm.

However, they returned to house later after the Magrib prayer break.
