KOCHI: An organized sex racket, which has an extensive network in Bangladesh, Mumbai, Hyderabad and Kolkata, is operating in Ernakulam. Over a dozen girls have been brought from Bangladesh and illegally detained in various parts of the state.
Police were able to collect these details when a Bangladeshi girl, who was rescued from such a racket in Aluva on Thursday, gave a submission in this regard on Friday.
Ernakulam rural superintendent of police S Satheesh Bino told TOI that they had received vital information from the girl and a detailed probe was on to track the sex network in Kerala.
“The gang had taken the girl to Mumbai and Hyderabad before bringing her to Kerala. An organized racket is behind the trafficking of girls from Bangladesh after they are promised jobs in Kerala,” Satheesh said. According to police sources, girls brought from Bangladesh have been put up at rented houses in rural areas in the district. They are shifted to Hyderabad and Mumbai when the racket feels their activities are raising suspicion among the local people.
“They basically concentrate in areas where a large number of migrant labourers stay so as to avoid detection and carry out their activities,” police said.
On Thursday, the Aluva police busted a sex racket, arrested three persons and rescued a 19-year-old girl hailing from Bangladesh from their custody at Binanipuram. Three persons identified as Shebin (25) of Murinjapuzha, Rajani (25) of Thiruvananthapuram and Jijo(32) of Mundakkayam were arrested. The girl was brought from Bangladesh by the accused nine days ago. She was sold to the racket by an agent for Rs 40,000.
