ACC summons former army chief Shafiuddin Ahmed

The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has summoned former army chief of staff Gen (retd) SM Shafiuddin Ahmed for questioning over allegations of amassing wealth illegally through corruption and irregularities.

ACC Deputy Director Aktarul Islam confirmed the development to reporters today.

According to a notice issued by the ACC, Shafiuddin has been asked to appear before the commission on September 14 with a photocopy of his national identity (NID) card.

The notice, signed by ACC Director and inquiry team leader Abul Hasnat, said an inquiry is underway into allegations of acquiring illegal wealth through various irregularities and corruption. “To ensure a proper inquiry, it is essential to hear and record his statement,” the notice added.

The ACC has formed a two-member team to conduct the inquiry and submit a report. Abul Hasnat has been made the team leader, while Deputy Director Mozammel Hossain has been made a member.
