A rare white buffalo, popularly known as “Trump” at the National Zoo, has been transferred to the Bangladesh Livestock Research Institute (BLRI) in Savar following an administrative decision.
National Zoo Director Dr Md Rafiqul Islam Talukdar confirmed this yesterday, saying the animal was shifted to BLRI for conservation, research, and breeding purposes.
The buffalo is currently being kept in quarantine in compliance with the applicable regulations, he added.
“The white buffalo kept at the zoo has been transferred to the Bangladesh Livestock Research Institute in Savar following an administrative decision,” he said.
He added that the move was taken to ensure more effective management of the animal’s conservation, research, and reproductive activities.
The entire relocation process was carried out under the supervision of the relevant authorities.
The rare albino buffalo had drawn significant public attention at the National Zoo due to its unique appearance and the name “Trump,” which made it a major attraction among visitors.
Earlier, ahead of Eid-ul-Adha, the buffalo gained widespread attention on social media after it was named “Donald Trump” by its owner at a farm in Narayanganj, reportedly due to its distinctive hair pattern resembling the former US president.
The government later decided not to slaughter the animal and shifted it to the National Zoo on 27 May for conservation purposes, where it became a popular exhibit.
Following the latest administrative decision, the buffalo has now been moved to BLRI in Savar for further care and research.
