Bangladesh ODI skipper Tamim Iqbal thought that it would be difficult for his team Fortune Barishal to make a mark in the upcoming Bangabandhu T20 Cup unless they play “out-of-the-box cricket” in the five-team T20 tournament, scheduled to begin from November 24.
Lack of experience would be apparent when taken a glance at Barishal’s squad. Tamim remains the most experienced player in the squad with Taskin Ahmed, Afif Hossain, Abu Jayed, Aminul Islam Biplob, Mehedi Hasan Miraz, Kamrul Islam Rabbi and Saif Hassan the other national stars.
“There is no doubt that we [Barishal] made a blunder during the players’ draft. But cricket is an unpredictable game. Some players who we are not even considering [as game changers] and thinking about can end up doing great for the team. Even in the [BCB] President’s Cup, some of the most talked-about players were the ones who we did not even imagine playing well before the start of that tournament,” said Tamim, who recently played in the Pakistan Super League playoffs for Lahore Qalandars.
Tamim thought the only way for them to win the tournament is by taking the other team by surprise.
“The team we have, if we want to be successful then we would need to play out-of-the-box cricket. It would be difficult for us if we play according to a normal set of plans. If a few players, who the other teams are not even considering playing good cricket, play well then we can achieve something,” Tamim added.
