50 wickets up for Mustafizur in T20 cricket

The 20-year-old lanky pacer from Satkhira and Bangladesh’s bowling wonder Mustafizur Rahman picked up his 50th wicket in T20 cricket when he dismissed Murali Vijay for six in the 46th match of the ongoing Indian Premier League on May 15, 2016 at Mohali, Chandigarh.

Before the match against Kings XI Punjab, Sunrisers Hyderabad’s magnificent recruit Mustafizur had featured in 34 T20s and took 49 wickets at a bowling average of 16.42 and a brilliant economy rate of 6.13, reportscricketcountry.com

Mustafizur, who finished with figures of 1 for 32, took his overall tally to 14 wickets from 12 games in the IPL. He did not bowl that well against Punjab, and had to contend with one Hashim Amla late in the innings. Amla hammered Fizz for three boundaries in the 17th over, and went on to score 96 from 56. Mustafiz had a lean period off late, with a single wicket in his last three IPL matches.

On 12 May when the Cutter Master conceded 39 runs in four overs against Delhi Daredevils, it was only the third time in 11 games that Mustafizur finished without a wicket to his name.

Pant, who struck 39 off 26 balls after South African opener Quinton de Kock had laid the foundation with 44, was particularly savage on Mustafizur’s low full tosses, smashing two sixes against him.

It was the most expensive bowling figure for Mustafizur in the IPL.

Mustafiz took the cricketing world by storm when he captured 11 wickets in his first two one-day matches, and enabled Tigers to register their maiden series win over India in 2015. He became the first Bangladeshi cricketer to make the ICC ODI Team of the Year.

Fizz has played two Tests and picked up four wickets. In nine ODIs, the left-armer has 26 wickets. From 13 T20I matches for Bangladesh, Mustafizur has 22 wickets to his name.
