Five people were killed and several others injured in two separate road accidents in Comilla and Cox’s Bazar on Sunday during the Eid-ul-Fitr rush.
Police said a ‘Hanif Paribahan’ bus rammed into a pickup head-on at Comilla’s Chandina on the Dhaka-Chittagong highway killing three on the spot.
The victims were on the pickup, Chandina police OC Golam Morshed said but could not identify them.
Several of the bus passengers sustained injuries in the accident, he said adding the vehicles had been towed away.
Meanwhile, in a separate accident, a microbus veered into a roadside ditch in Cox’s Bazar’s Chokoria killing two people.
Police identified the victims as driver Md Shahjahan, 30, and passenger Pushpa Paul, 60.
Eight others injured in the accident have been sent to the Chittagong Medical College and Hospital and Dulahazra’s Christian Memorial Hospital.
The microbus was on its way to Cox’s Bazar from Chittagong, said Mamlumghat highway police outpost in-charge Shafiqul Azam.
An increased traffic rush causes road accidents during the Eid season.
