3 killed in Jamaat-AL clash

Three people were killed in a clash between the activists of the Awami League and Jamaat-e Islami at Shibganj in Chapainawabganj district on Sunday.

The police confirmed the deaths. They are local Jamaat leader Abdul Bashir, 36, and Awami League activists Nasiruddin, 45, and Noor Shahed, 50.

The clash took place at Bhabanipur village in Shyampur union at noon.

Shibganj OC Mizanur Rahman told bdnews24.com that Awami League activists chopped Bashir when he was passing a house where ruling party men were in a meeting.

The attack triggered the clash between activists of the two parties leaving at least 17 people injured.

Of them, Nasir and Bashir died to their injuries at Upazila Health Complex while Noor died on his way to Rajshahi.

The police officer said Bashir was Jamaat’s Shibganj municipality ward-5 unit the secretary and a teacher of Bhabanipur Fazil Madrasah.

Police Sub-Inspector Abdur Razzak said Noor hailed from Omarpur village and Nasir from Sharatnagar. Both were AL men.
