Twenty-eight leaders and activists of the Kishoreganj BNP have been jailed for three years for assault on police and vandalism.
Judge of Kishoreganj Speedy Trial Court Alaul Akbar delivered the verdict on Tuesday.
Eleven of the accused were present when the judge handed down the sentence.
Two of the accused are already behind bars in another case. Fifteen others are absconding.
The BNP’s district unit General Secretary Mazharul Islam said all the accused were leaders and activists of the party and its affiliated organisations.
According to case details, the BNP men clashed with police during a programme in Kishoreganj on Jan 29, 2012.
They assaulted policemen at the time and vandalised several vehicles including the car of the then superintendent of police.
Kishoreganj Model Police Station’s Sub-Inspector ATM Mahmudul Haque had lodged the case later.
