Customs officials in separate drives seized 170 gold bars weighing 20 kilograms at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in the capital within a span of nine hours till this morning.
A passenger was arrested on charge of carrying gold illegally.
The officials recovered 17 kgs of gold bar from the toilet of a Biman Bangladesh Airlines aircraft around 11:30pm yesterday, said Md Wajed Ali, assistant commissioner of customs.
On information, the officials searched the aircraft and found two bags carrying 146 gold bars inside the toilet, he said.
The flight returned from Hong Kong at about 10:45pm yesterday, the official said.
Around 8:45am today, the custom officials arrested one Sohel Rahman, 38, along with 24 gold bars at the airport, said the customs official.
Hailing from Sylhet, Sohel returned from United Arab Emirates by a Biman Bangladesh flight, he said.
Earlier, one Jahangir Hossain, 47, was arrested with six gold bars and 87 hard disks at the airport yesterday.
On October 25, police arrested a hajji with 1.16kg of gold at the airport.
A total of 280 gold bars weighing around 33 kilograms were recovered from a Dubai-based low-cost carrier on October 22 while gold weighing over 1kg were found from inside a laptop at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in the capital.
