Two more cases were filed on Thursday and Wednesday against 126 including the deposed prime minister, Sheikh Hasina, her cabinet and party colleagues on charges of murder, arson attacks and vandalism in Feni and Nilphamari.
The case in Feni was lodged for killing young protester Mahbubul Hasan Masum in Mohipal area of the district in early August and the case in Nilphamari was lodged over arson attacks and vandalism on different offices of Bangladesh Nationalist Party in the district on August 4.
With these two cases, Hasina, also the president of Awami League, is now facing at least 102 cases including 12 complaints related to crimes against humanity and genocide since her resignation as prime minister amid a mass uprising led by students on August 5.
New Age correspondent in Feni reported that a case was filed against 662 people including Hasina and former lawmakers Masud Uddin Chowdhury and Nizam Uddin Hazari over the killing of Mahbubul.
The victim’s brother, Mahmudul Hasan, filed the case on Wednesday, said Md Ruhul Amin, officer-in-charge of Feni Model Police Station.
According to the case statement, Mahbubul was shot in the head, chest and back during indiscriminate firing by AL leaders and activists in Mohipal during the movement over quota reform in government jobs on August 4.
Critically injured Mahbubul was taken to Feni General Hospital from where he was shifted to Chattogram’s Park View Hospital. On August 7, he was transferred to Chattogram Medical College Hospital where he died in the evening.
Another case was filed by Nilphamari district Swechchhasebak Dal leader Abdus Salam Babla against Hasina and 125 others with a court in the district on Thursday, New Age correspondent in the district reported.
The case was filed over arson attacks and vandalism on different offices of BNP in the district on August 4, said Mokbul Hossain, the district superintendent of police.
AL general secretary and former minister Obaidul Quader, former home minister Asaduzzaman Khan, Central Chhatra League president Saddam Hossain and former Nilphamari-2 lawmaker Asaduzzaman Noor are among the accused named in the case.
Additionally, 300 unidentified individuals were also accused in the case.
New Age correspondent in Feni reported that a murder case was filed against former lawmaker of Feni-3 constituency, Masud Uddin Chowdhury, former lawmaker of Feni Sadar constituency, Nizam Uddin Hazari, and 355 people for killing Zafar Ahmed on August 4.
The victim’s wife Asia Begum filed the case with Feni Model Police Station Thursday night, said Ruhul Amin, officer-in-charge of the police station.
Bangladesh Sangbad Sanstha reported that another murder case was filed against former Supreme Court judge, Justice M Enayetur Rahim, his younger brother and former lawmaker M Iqbalur Rahim and 103 others in connection with the killing of student Rabiul Islam Rahul during the anti-quota protest in Dinajpur on August 4.
Md Riyad, a resident of Pak Paharpur area of the district town, filed the murder case with Kotwali Police Station on Thursday, said officer-in-charge Md Farid Hossain.
The other accused in the case include Sadar Upazila Parishad’s former chairman Imdad Sarkar, Birganj Upazila Parishad’s former chairman Abu Hossain Bipu and district AL general secretary Altafuzzaman.
