11 held with firearms in capital

Detectives in separate drives arrested 11 people along with two firearms and over 5,500 sedative tablets from different parts of the capital Friday night.

The law enforcers also seized Tk 50,500 during the raids, said Monirul Islam, joint commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP).

Acting on a tip-off, a team of Detective Branch of police raided a bus near Dholaipar of Bangshal around 8:30pm and nabbed seven members of an ‘aggyan (dope) party’ including its ringleader Farid Hossain Robin, the commissioner said at a press conference at DMP media centre Saturday.

They also recovered several medicines, ointments and some others items used to tranquilise people from the arrestees, Monirul said.

Acting on information given by Farid, the DB team later raided his house and seized Tk 50,500 cash and a revolver with four bullets.

Later, the law enforcers conducted a raid at two pharmacies in Fakirerpool and Dholaikhal areas and arrested three people along with 5,500 sedative pills, the DMP official said.

Besides, members of Detective Branch (DB) of police nabbed a firearm trader, Khalilur Rahman, along with a pistol and 20 bullets in Paltan area around 10:30pm, he added.
