A Dhaka court on Thursday sentenced 10 militants of Jama’atul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) to death over a suicide bomb attack in Gazipur Bar Association office in 2005 that killed eight people including four lawyers.
Eighty more people were also injured in the blast that occurred at one of the lawyers’ room in Gazipur Bar Association on November 29. The JMB men who carried out the blast also died in the incident.
The convicts are: Anayet Ullah alias Walid, Arifur Rahman, Moshidul Islam alias Masud, Saidur Munshi, Abdullah Al Sohaien, Nizamuddin Reza, Taibur Rahman alias Hassan, Ashraful Islam, Md Shafiullah alias Tarek and Adnan Sami alias Zahangir.
Judge Md Motahar Hossain of Speedy Trial Tribunal-4 pronounced the verdict in a jam-packed court room in presence of the convicts.
The sentence will be executed after the approval of the High Court, the judge said.
On the fateful day of 2005, the bomb blasted in between 9:37am to 9:45am at bar association premises, leaving three dead on the spot while others died at Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH).
Four lawyers who died in the blast are: Amjad Hossain, Golam Farukh, Nurul Huda and Anowarul Adil.
