1.25 lakh policemen did not go home for Eid

Almost 1.25 lakh policemen did not returned home to ensure safety of the home-goers during Eid-ul-Fitr vacation. The police members were on-duty in different Eidgah during Eid congregations, on highways and roads to provide road safety and in other security measures during the Eid vacations. 80 per cent of the police members were unable to return home for their duty purpose far away from the mother-father, brother-sister and other members of the family. They celebrated their Eid in the barracks or temporary residence after their duty.

According to police, a total of 1.56 lakh police members are deployed in different parts of the country.

Assistant inspector general of police (AIG) Nazrul Islam of the police headquarters in a statement said prime minister Sheikh Hasina has congratulated Bangladesh police for providing proper security for the people and for their role during Eid vacations. Prime minister conveyed her thanks in a message sent to the inspector general of police (IGP) in the evening of the Eid day.

IGP AKM Shahidul Haque also thanked the police members for their tireless work to provide public security and their safety during the Eid vacation. He also urged the police members to provide road safety for the safe return of the people to their respective workplace after the vacation.

“Addtional joy or sorrow for the people means additional duty for us. Our joy is to provide happiness to the people by easing the suffering of the people,” said IGP.
