Local Government Engineering Division (LGED) on Sunday signed an agreement with USAID for a grant of US$ 50 lakh for strengthening agricultural infrastructure in the country.

LGED chief engineer Wahidur Rahman and USAID Bangladesh mission director Richard Green signed the deal on behalf of their respective organisations.
USAID will disburse the grant under its Agriculture Programme and Activities over the next four years for the implementation of the Bangladesh Agriculture Infrastructure Development Programme under LGED, said officials at a press conference after the signing ceremony at LGED auditorium.
Speaking on the occasion, State Minister for Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Jahangir Kabir Nanak said. “I believe LGED is one of the capable organisations of the ministry and it’ll be able to implement the programme with full satisfaction.”
US Ambassador Dan W Mozena said: “The goal of this project is simple — to increase agricultural productivity and farmers’ income.”
“This grant is part of America’s changing approach to development assistance. Under this new approach, America endeavours to more directly support host government programmes, to more closely align our engagements with government priorities,” he said.
Local Government Division (LGD) Secretary Abu Alam Md Shahid Khan pointed out that the Development Project Proposal (DPP) for the project is awaiting the approval of the Project Evaluation Committee (PEC) of the Executive Committee of National Economic Council (Ecnec).
