The United States offered to help Savar victims by providing artificial limbs, Law Minister Barrister Shafique Ahmed said after a meeting with US Ambassador Dan Mozena on Tuesday.

The minister said the government would decide how it would take the help.

He said Mozena condoled the Savar incidents and expressed his country’s willingness to extend help in rehabilitation of the victims.

The Wednesday’s nine-story building collapse killed nearly 400 people and injured more than 1,000. Many more still remained missing when the rescue operations were called off.

Of the injured, many lost their limbs after being trapped under the debris.

Doctors say they had to amputate many arms and legs to save the victims.

The building housed at least four garment factories. Most of the workers were female.

The minister said the ambassador called on him at his office at the Secretariat to inquire about the progress made by Bangladesh government in strengthening anti-terrorism act and labour law.

He said the amended anti-terrorism act would be placed in the next session of the Parliament.
