Tarique needs brain check-up: Law Minister

Criticising BNP senior vice-chairman Tarique Rahman for his remark against Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, Law Minister Anisul Haque on Wednesday said Tarique needs a brain check-up.

The Law Minister came up with the remark while talking to reporters over a media report that Tarique Rahman at a programme in London on Tuesday had termed Bangabandu illegal prime minister of 1972.

The Law Minister was talking to the journalists after a meeting of Task Force Committee at the secretariat on Wednesday.

Replying to a question about what steps have taken to bring back the two sons of BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia, the minister said Tarique Rahman and Arafat Rahman Koko are now fugitive accused. “We don’t want to disclose anything in the interest of national security.”

Responding to a question about the decision to bring back Tarique Rahman, Anisul Haque said, “I won’t say anything over the matter, the law enforcers will look into the matter”.

In response to another query about Tarique Rahman’s recent remark claiming Ziaur Rahman as the first president of the country, the minister said there is a purpose behind the claim. “Have they made the statement for turning Bangladesh into Pakistan again? You should ask them,” he said.

Replying to another question about the Task Force Committee’s failure in the last five years in bringing back any fugitive accused, especially Bangabandhu’s killer Nur Chowdhury, Anisul Haque said it will be difficult to bring back Nur Chowdhury as the Canadian Government refused to send him back.

Foreign Minister Abul Hasan Mahmud Ali, State Minister for Home Asaduzzaman Khan, Inspector General of Police (IGP) Hasan Mahmud Khandakar were, among others, present at the meeting.
